Bar Harbor, Maine Visitors Guide

As the largest village on Mount Dessert Island, Bar Harbor summer population reaches 20,000 due to it’s nearby resort area. However, during the fall its wooded areas are resplendent in their red, gold and orange foliage. Nearby is Acadia National Park.

Abbe Museum – Do you enjoy learning about the culture of the Native Americans? Then take some time to view the displays and exhibits here. You will see artifacts and archeological finds as well as learn about the Abbe.

Bar Harbor Historical Society Museum – An overview of the life and times of Bar Harbor through photos, hotel registers, maps and scrapbooks

Bar Harbor Whale Watch Company – Take a cruise on the Friendship V or Helen H and see seals, whales, puffins, and osprey. There are several trips to choose from.

The Jackson Laboratory – World renowned for its work in genetics research as it relates to cancer, diabetes, heart disease, blood disorders and birth defects. Lectures and audiovisual programs offered Wednesday afternoon from June to August.

Lobster Hatchery and Oceanarium – See Marine mammals, a salt marsh, and learn about the life cycle of the lobster.

Lulu Lobster Boat Ride – Take a ride on a real lobster boar and learn how lobsters are caught.

Dive in heater with diver Ed – Take the plunge on an underwater sightseeing adventure.
