Maine Staycations
Don't let the economy get you down. You can still enjoy a fun vacation this year for less money. By exploring the areas close to your home you can save on flights and expensive hotels. Below are some Maine staycation ideas of things to do close to home.
- Plan a trip to east Penobscot Bay where you can tour are museums and galleries, enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, climb Penobscot Narrows Observatory and Fort Knox, set sail on the mail boat of Isle Autlaut Ferry service, explore the
sights and sounds of Dennett’s Wharf and many other area attractions.
- Book a place at one of the hotels, B&B, or campgrounds near Acadia National Park and spend a few days exploring one of America’s most visited park. With more than 47,000 acres of natural beauty there is plenty to experience.
- Spend some time in Kennebec and Moose River Valley area, where you can enjoy snowmobiling, whitewater rafting, fine dining, historical museums, festivals and many other family fun activities and attractions.
- Beginning northeast of Portland is the region known as the mid-coast. Here you will find 1,500 miles of coastline, over 20 lighthouses, 11 hiking trails, whale watching, summertime outdoor concerts, antique dealers, farmers markets, theater, artisans, and everything you could want in a Maine vacation.
- From bird watching to fishing, snowmobiling and skiing to art galleries and studios visit Maine’s mountains. From the Artist Bridge in Newry to the St. Peter and Paul Basilica in Lewiston or the Jay Hill Auto Museum in Jay to shopping at gallery in Bridgton there are numerous opportunities to explore.
- Plan a trip to Portland. Here you will find opera, symphony, museum, sporting events, beaches, and water excursions--- there is plenty for the whole family.
