This is a comprehensive guide of animal life that make their home along the coast of the Atlantic. You will find drawings, descriptions, and interesting details to make it fast and fun to discover these animals on your own. A great guide for beachside field trips.
Seashells in my Pocket; Hansen, Judith; Appalachian Mountain Club Books; 1988 A guide especially useful for helping children learn to discover and identify the various sea shells, plants, birds and sea creatures that can be found up and down the Atlantic shoreline. There are tips on what to wear, items to use and safety, as well as a checklist, award certificate and much more.
Museums:
In Augusta, a great field trip is the Maine State Museum where visitors learn about history, government and technology of the 19th century. Another great day of learning is found at the hands on interactive Children’s Discovery Museum.
In Bangor the Children can learn about those who serve and protect at the Police Museum or the Hose 5 Fire Museum. For hands on learning visit the three story Main Discovery Museum.
Learn about history of the beacons along Maine’s coast at the Maine Lighthouse Museum in Rockland.
From shipbuilding to ocean voyages, spend a day at Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. There are special activities just for kids. More interactive learning can be found in Portland at the Children’s Museum where science, art and natural history are made kid-friendly through the hands-on displays exhibits and play areas.
