Top Things to Do and See in Maine

  • Travel around the state experiencing the variety of festivals.  There are music fest all over ranging from classical to jazz, bluegrass to country and blues to rock.  For a bit of everything, go to the American Folk Music Festival in Bangor.


  • Explore Maine’s country roads.  The countryside is bursting with beautiful scenery.  From mountains to farmland, rolling rivers to peaceful streams, lighthouses and covered bridges there are numerous sights to be discovered.


  • Go out on the water: There are ferry trips, boat cruises, canoeing and kayaking.  You can hire a guide or chart you own course.


  • Get a change of perspective by taking a train ride such as Amtrak’s down-easter run, or by chartering a float plane or helicopter.


  • Do you love to shop? Maine has it all!  From outdoor markets to factory outlets, unique boutiques to L.L. Bean classic drugstores complete with soda fountains to large malls, Maine has it all.


  • Get a taste of Maine.  No trip to Maine would be complete without sampling some of the local fare.  Whether it’s freshly harvest berries; lobster, salmon and crab cooked right on the beach; a mug of unique micro-brew, handmade chocolates, or cheese and many other statewide favorites.  Maine is the foodie’s paradise.


  • Go on an animal safari.  Hire a guide and spend some time in the great outdoors watching birds, moose, whales and more that live, or pass through, in majestic Maine.


  • Get a rush as you ski, snowboard, go tubing and other winter wonderland activities found in Maine’s mountain region.


  • Go on a lighthouse tour – with over sixty to choose from, you can spend several days seeing them all.


  • Trace your roots at area historical societies or simply brush up on American history.
